Noelle W. Ihli crafts an eerie, unsettling, and deeply compelling narrative that illuminates both sides of what’s normally a one-sided tale: murder. The way she chooses to tell this story is what makes it stand out the most. Rather than a straightforward thriller, she gives us something more intricate, weaving together the voices of Meghan, Brecia, and Skye in a way that feels urgent, raw, and chillingly immersive.
Ihli plays with perspective in a way that makes the storytelling feel fresh. Jumping between these three voices adds depth, each woman bringing her own history, her own pain, and her own need for resolution. The connections between them build steadily, their experiences braiding together into something bigger than any one character’s story. It’s not often that shifting perspectives are done so well, but here, it’s seamless; each woman is distinct, their motivations and fears fully realized.
Then there’s the way Ask for Andrea handles the afterlife. Rather than leaning on familiar depictions of death and what comes after, Ihli shapes something more eerie, something that feels both surreal and entirely plausible. It’s unsettling in the best way, forcing you to think about what lingers beyond the living. This is an exploration of loss, unfinished business, and the way trauma echoes long after life is gone.
Pacing-wise, it kept me hooked. There’s an ebb and flow that works, moments of rising intensity balanced with quieter, more introspective beats that allow the weight of what’s happening to settle. Just when you think you have a handle on where it’s going, Ihli throws in something unexpected, and not in a way that feels cheap or purely for shock value, but in a way that adds to the depth of the story.
I loved this book, though I wouldn’t call it flawless. There were moments where I wanted more…. more tension, more darkness, more layers to certain relationships. But even with those minor gripes, it was an incredibly satisfying read. It had a premise that immediately intrigued me and an execution that mostly lived up to that promise. I’d definitely recommend to anyone looking for something that blends thriller, supernatural intrigue, and emotional depth.
