Fantasy has always been my first love. While other genres have carved out spaces in my heart (predomninantly thriller and horror), there’s something unparalleled about the escape and wonder that fantasy provides. I blame it on my obsession with medieval literature, where knights quested for honor, gods meddled in mortal affairs, and the line between myth and reality blurred so beautifully it felt tangible. Fantasy captures all of that (the grandeur, the drama, the impossible) and then magnifies it. Fantasy isn’t only a genre; it’s an entire realm of possibility.
That’s why my current TBR is stacked with eight fantasy titles that promise to sweep me off my feet and into otherworldly realms. Each one offers a unique flavor of magic, romance, and high-stakes drama, and I can’t wait to devour them all. Let’s take a look at what’s waiting for me on this journey through realms of wonder.
Rhapsodic by Laura Thalassa
I’ve heard nothing but glowing praise for Laura Thalassa’s Rhapsodic. A dark and seductive tale of magic, deals, and forbidden love? Sign me up. Fantasy romance is a sweet spot for me, and this promises just the right mix of danger and longing. Plus, the Bargainer as a character intrigues me endlessly. Who doesn’t love a brooding, morally complex love interest?
Fourth Wing
With the recent release of book 3 in this series (literally this month), this book feels like it’s everywhere right now, and I’m not immune to the hype. Dragons? Yes. Magic academies? Absolutely. A protagonist navigating treacherous politics while trying not to get roasted alive? Say no more. This one’s been pitched as a fresh take on dragon-riding fantasy, and I’m eager to see how it lives up to the buzz.
From Blood and Ash
Jennifer L. Armentrout’s From Blood and Ash seems like one of those foundational reads for modern fantasy romance lovers. The mix of forbidden love, political intrigue, and a heroine caught in the web of destiny feels like everything I want from a sprawling fantasy epic. I’ve been meaning to start this series for ages, and I’m ready to dive in.
Powerless by Lauren Roberts
This one feels like it’s going to hit all the right emotional beats. From what I’ve heard, Powerless blends found family, romance, and epic battles in a way that’s both heartfelt and high stakes. Plus, Roberts’ writing has been praised for its lyricism, which is something I’m always drawn to in fantasy.
Lightlark
Controversy aside, Lightlark has captured my curiosity. A deadly competition, a cursed land, and characters who are as ruthless as they are alluring? I’m ready to see if this book’s drama lives up to its premise. Even if it divides readers, that’s half the fun of picking up a book with so much buzz around it.
Fairy Tale by Stephen King
Stephen King’s foray into fantasy feels like a match made in literary heaven. Known for his ability to weave intricate, atmospheric tales, I’m fascinated to see how King brings his signature style to a fantasy setting. If it’s anything like his previous works, this book is going to be immersive, unsettling, and unforgettable.
Rise of the Astral Gods
I’m always drawn to stories with cosmic stakes and epic conflicts, and Rise of the Astral Gods sounds like it’s going to deliver both in spades. The idea of gods clashing in a high-stakes battle, with mortals caught in the middle, taps right into my love of mythology and medieval drama.
Queens of Moirai
This one is extra special because I was selected as an ARC reader. The anticipation is through the roof, and I can’t wait to see how the author reimagines the Fates in a world of political intrigue and destiny. The concept alone is enough to hook me, and I’m thrilled to be part of its early readers.
To me, these books are invitations to worlds where the impossible becomes real. Fantasy is about more than escapism; it’s about confronting universal truths in extraordinary settings. Whether it’s a dragon fight, a cursed competition, or a godly battle, the genre lets us explore humanity’s greatest strengths and flaws through the lens of magic and myth.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a TBR to conquer. What’s on your fantasy reading list? Let me know if there’s something I need to add to mine!
